You clenched your teeth, your hands squeezed into tight balls. Your legs felt like jelly, but you couldn’t lose this. Your desperate pants for air turned into wheezes as your feet smacked into the ground with every step. You craned your head ever so slightly to your left, only to see Yao overtake you with ease.

“Dammit!” you gasped. It’s not fair, Yao always bet you in everything. He was so smart and could work out any hard equation you threw at him.

And even out of the field he was better than you, always beating you in any sport you tried out for. Your chest was heavy and your lungs seemed to be in a tight knot.

“Hold on,” you wheezed as you hunched over and gasped for air. Yao slowed down into a jog and turned back to you, his chocolate eyes beaming with adrenaline.

“See! I beat you again, aru!" he cheered. You scowled at him as you held on your stomach, gasping violently for air. Yao's smile faded and his thin eyebrows came together worryingly.

“Are you okay?” he asked, voice thick with his accent. You just managed to smile as you gasped again for air.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I’m just so unfit...” you whined as you stood up straight. The corners of Yao’s mouth curved up again as he took a step closer to you. His dark, shiny hair was still pulled back into a perfect ponytail.

You had to admit, you were pretty jealous of just how ‘good-looking’ he is. You knew your hair must be a frizzy mess.

“You just need to practice, ___________. I can teach you Chinese way of learning! Non-stop running until your toes bleed and-“

You shook your head frantically at him, dismissing those thoughts. He got the idea and pursed his lips until they were a thin line. You reached down and poked your leg. Yep, they’re going to be sore tomorrow!

“My whole body is going to be a sore mess tomorrow,” you complained. You could already feel your muscles tightening up, as if they were scared of any more exercise.  You sighed and dramatically collapsed down onto the soft grass.

The field's grass was lush but soft, swaying with each warm breeze that passed. You stared up at the blue sky. The pure white clouds that floated above stood out against the rich blue sky. You could already feel the corners of your mouth curve up into a peaceful smile as you watched the clouds hover on by.

“Isn’t it beautiful?”

You jumped. Had you forgotten that Yao was there? You looked to your side to see him taking a seat next to you. His leg brushed up against yours and you could feel your cheeks heating up.

“Yeah, it is,” you squeaked. Why did you feel so embarrassed all of a sudden? Yao turned to you, his lips pulled into a crooked smile. Your stomach whirled and your heart seemed to skip a beat. That smile always made you crazy. You could almost swear it was going to be the death of you.

“Oh, look!” Yao said; his fingers extended towards the fluffy clouds. “That cloud looks like a dragon!”

He turned back to you, his chocolate-brown eyes glazed with excitement. They have a certain indefinable sparkle to them, alluring and sensual, with a touch of mischief. You could feel a bright red blush spread from your soft cheeks to your ears.

“Don’t you think?” he asked, snapping you out of your trance. You turned your head back up towards the cotton-candy like clouds.

“Oh, you’re right! It does!” you cheered as you observed the odd shaped cloud. It had a thick, dragon like head and body that curved in an aggressive manner. It even had a few sharp spikes poking out from its long tail.

You scanned the vast sky and squinted at another cloud. The fluff seemed to come together and mould into a shape that you knew all too well.

“Hey, that one looks a bit like a bar of chocolate!” you said, pointing to the rectangle shaped cloud. Yao followed your gaze to the plan looking cloud and chuckled.

“___________, does everything rectangle look like chocolate to you?” he asked, poking your shoulder in a friendly matter.

“Maybe!” you giggled as you poked him back. Yao was such a great friend to you; he always made you laugh, even if he just beat your ass at a race.

“That cloud looks a lot like a bunny!” you exclaimed. “And look, there’s its carrot!”
“Ohhh,” Yao hummed, his mouth shaped into a perfect little O. You smiled at his silly face.

“And that one looks like panda!” Yao yelled; his voice filled with excitement. You giggled at his enthusiasm and placed your hand back down on the soft grass, only for it to land on top of his hand. You gasped at the sudden touch and quickly pulled your hand away, blushing furiously.

Yao blinked once, and then turned to you with a confused expression on his face. His eyes glistened with something you had never seen in those sweet chocolate-brown eyes before - sadness.

“Why did you take your hand away, aru? I liked it there...” he said softly. Your cheeks felt like they were on fire.

“O-oh, I’m sorry,” you squeaked as you slowly placed your hand back on top of his. Your hand was tense; you had never done something like this with Yao before. But yet, it didn’t feel awkward or not right. It felt like your hand was supposed to be there.

Yao turned to you and smirked, a small blush creeping up on his own face. The only sound in the field was that of rustling grass and the deep beats of your racing heart. You gulped and looked down at your hand, not wanting to get trapped by his intense but friendly stare again.

He slowly removed his hand from under yours and the sudden heat loss made you shiver. You liked his hand being there, why did he remove it? You couldn’t help but let out a little whimper. Yao chucked and reached back down and entangled his fingers in yours.

Your breathing became heavy again and your heart felt like it was going to burst out of your chest. Yao gave your hand a light squeeze and you couldn’t help but smile. His hand felt so right in yours, as if they were made to be in each other.

You looked back up to his cute face. His eyes were as big as yours and a scarlet blush travelled around his cheeks and made camp on his ears. You both looked away quickly and back up to the shimmering sky.

You couldn’t help but notice an ironically placed love heart shaped cloud right above the two of you. ((Muhaha Reader-Chan! I’m God in this story, so I can do that! Oh, thank me later (:<))

“Look,” you whispered. “That cloud looks like-“

Yao interrupted with his soft pair of lips pressing gently up against yours. Your breath hitched and your eyes widened so big that they felt like they were going to pop out. Yao stared back at you, looking just as shocked as you did.

It was funny really, the two of you staring at each other with huge, embarrassed eyes while kissing. Yao noticed that you hadn’t yet pulled away, so he clenched his eyes shut and concentrated on the kiss. Usually in a situation like this you would pull away, but you just couldn’t. He tasted so sweet and you wanted more.

Your eye lids flickered down and you entangled your hand in his hair. ‘Damn,’ you thought ‘he has such silky hair!’ He wrapped his arm tightly around your waist and pulled you closer to him. You never wanted this to end, it was amazing. But Yao quickly pulled away, panting heavily for air.

“...love heart” you finished your sentence sadly. Did he not like it? Why did he pull away so quickly? Yao looked at you, still panting for air and smiled.

“T-that was so good, I forgot to breathe,” he said between gasps. You also realized that you hadn’t been breathing either. You gasped quickly, getting as much oxygen as you could into your lungs.

Had that kiss been so good that you had forgotten to breathe? Maybe it’s good that Yao pulled away so soon, because if you two keep kissing you would have surely suffocated!

“_____________...”

You snapped out of your thoughts and looked at Yao. He looked worried, a stray strand of hair poking erect from his head.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me, I just-“

Now it was your time to interrupt. You pressed your lips up against his soft ones, this time with your eyes closed, and kissed him. He mumbled something into the kiss, but then smiled as he kissed back. You moved and kissed his cheek softly, then pulled back and smiled.

“No, I liked it,” you whispered. Yao’s blush was now glowing red, and you’re pretty sure your face was just as red.

"nî néng chéng wéi wô dē nüi péng yôu mā?" he asked, voice cracking with nervousness. You raised an eyebrow at him, having no idea what he just said.

“Uh, sorry, I mean, will you be my girlfriend?” he asked again, this time in English. You nibbled your lip and smiled.

“Okay! Only if you promise to teach me to run as good as you!” you laughed. Yao opened his mouth to say something.

“And not the Chinese way, the normal way!” you interrupted, a big smile plastered to your features.

“Sounds fair,” Yao giggled as he kissed your red cheek.

Maybe Yao kicking your sweet butt in a race was not all that bad after all?
